Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI), popular with the name Bangalore Medical College (BMC) was set up in 1955 under the Mysore Education Society by Dr. Shivram and Dr. Mohammed Shafi Mekhri. Originally part of the Mysore University and Bangalore University, the institute later became affiliated with the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS). BMCRI Bangalore has received recognition from the Medical Council of India and accreditation from NABH for undergraduate, postgraduate, and diploma courses. There are four teaching hospitals attached to the institution, namely Victoria Hospital, Vanivilas Women and Children Hospital, Minto Eye Hospital and SDS Tuberculosis Sanatorium.
BMCRI Bangalore offers MBBS, MD, MS, B.Sc. Nursing, M.Sc. Nursing, DM, and M.Ch at the UG, PG, and SS levels. It also offers various diploma programs and fellowship programs. Admission to undergraduate, postgraduate, and superspeciality programs is based on the score obtained in entrance examinations such as NEET UG, NEET PG, and NEET SS. Candidates who meet the required cutoff for their respective category at BMCRI Bangalore will be allocated seats for admission through the state-level counselling centralized by KEA. For admission to MSc Nursing and Post Basic BSc Nursing at BMCRI Bangalore, individuals need to follow the guidelines provided by the Karnataka Examination Authority, Banglore (KEA). For medical students, the institute offers many scholarships based on merit-based and income-based.
